Self-Drive Pontoon Rental in Gulfport
Take out a 2026 TriToon and drive it yourself on Boca Ciega Bay.
Gulfport, Florida
Your Boat, Your Route, Your Day
You are the captain. Our self-drive rental hands you the keys to a 2026 TriToon for the day, leaving from our slip at the City of Gulfport Municipal Marina. Every rental starts with a dockside orientation before you idle out.
Most groups run the Intracoastal Waterway south toward Shell Key, anchor at a sandbar near Bunces Pass, then loop back in time for sunset. Look over the 2026 TriToon pontoon boat and its layout before you book. If you are still weighing your options, both pontoon rental choices use the same boat.
Current rates and availability are shown in the online booking system.

What to Know Before You Take the Helm
The Two Rules Worth Knowing First
Renting without a captain in Florida comes with two rules worth knowing before you book. The operator must be at least 21 years old, which is our company policy. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 must also carry proof of boating safety education. That rule comes from Florida Statute 327.395 and applies because our motor exceeds 10 horsepower.
Florida does not require a traditional boating license. Most renters take the temporary 90 day certificate, an online course that runs 30 to 60 minutes and prints instantly. Courses and certifications are listed on FWC boating safety education. Bring that certificate and a valid photo ID to check-in and you are cleared to drive.
GULFPORT DOCKSIDE DEPARTURES
Why Gulfport Is an Easy Place to Learn the Bay
Gulfport sits on the protected side of Boca Ciega Bay, and that is the reason first-time operators do well here. The water between the marina and the Intracoastal Waterway is calm most mornings, well marked, and a slow speed zone for a good stretch. That gives you time to get comfortable at the helm before you reach open water.
From our dock, the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront sits in one direction and Egmont Key in the other. Our orientation covers the channel markers, the manatee zones and the sandbars that surface at low tide. If you are heading for the barrier islands, the run down the Intracoastal toward boat rentals near St. Pete Beach is an easy one.
Where The Boat Can Take You
From the marina it is a short idle out into Boca Ciega Bay. Head south and you reach Shell Key Preserve, Bunces Pass and the beaches at Fort De Soto Park. Head north up the Intracoastal Waterway and you pass Treasure Island, Madeira Beach and John's Pass. Our boat rentals in Gulfport put every one of those stops within an easy half day.
A cooler and ice are available, dogs are welcome, and the boat holds 11 passengers or 1,610 pounds per the manufacturer's plaque. Smoking and glass bottles are not allowed aboard. If nobody in your group wants the helm, book the same boat as a pontoon rental with a captain and hire an experienced local to run it for the day.

Self-Drive Rental Questions
Florida does not require a traditional boating license. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 must carry proof of boating safety education to operate a vessel with a motor of 10 HP or greater. Our pontoon exceeds that, so the rule applies.
Most renters take the temporary 90 day certificate. It is a 30 to 60 minute online test with an instant certificate at the end.
The operator must be at least 21 years old. That is our company policy, and it applies whether or not the education requirement affects you.
Operators born before January 1, 1988 are exempt from the education requirement but still have to be 21. A valid photo ID is required at check-in. Read more about our Gulfport boat rental operation to see how we run our rentals.
The legal limit is 11 passengers, or 1,610 pounds, per the manufacturer's plaque. That count includes the operator and any children aboard.
Hire a captain instead. Our freelance captains for hire are experienced and vetted, and you contact and pay the captain directly on the day of your rental.
Boca Ciega Bay, the Intracoastal Waterway, Shell Key Preserve and Bunces Pass are all within an easy day from the marina. Fort De Soto Park sits at the south end of the run.
Groups heading north often ask about boat rentals in Treasure Island and the stretch toward John's Pass.
Yes, with prior approval. Dogs are welcome aboard, with a maximum of two dogs per rental and a $50 non-refundable cleaning fee per rental, not per dog. Dogs must stay under your control at all times.
Bring waste bags, fresh water and a towel. Let us know a dog is coming when you book.
